Recalling links with Victorian residents

The church is open to the public throughout the day and welcomes many visitors from the UK and – with its celebrated links with Africa – from abroad.

Each Holy Week pilgrims pause at the church for rest and refreshments en route from Essex to Walsingham for the Easter celebration.

The descendants of the Alborough family, well known local residents in the 19th century, are pictured during a visit in September 2018. Their ancestor was Forncett farmer William Alborough who with his wife sailed to Natal in Southern Africa in the ship carrying the Revd John Colenso with his family and other Colenso party members. The visitors are pictured in front of the Alborough family graves.

The Revd John Edwards (below) surprised us with a visit the day before the Aldborough family arrived to present the church with a set of materials relating to the Colenso family including family photos.
