BELLS RING OUT

The original three bells had been removed from the tower in1981 and given new homes at Forncett St Peter, Fundenhall, and Catfield.

In 2014 a bell was installed in memory of two Norfolk ringers – Harold Turner (second left in picture) of Tacolneston who was involved in the removal of the original bells, and bell hanger and engineer Tony Baines.

The Norwich Diocesan Association of Ringers (see more) raised the money for a bell (c.2½ feet high and 2 feet in diameter), made by John Taylor of Loughborough in the 1950s, which originated from a church in Yorkshire. It was hung under the supervision of veteran Norfolk ringer and bell expert, Aubrey Forster who made the elm headstock to which it is attached.

The new bell was rung officially for the first time at the wedding of Sarah Prior and Robert Henshilwood on 6th June 2015 following the Bishop of Norwich licensing St Mary’s for the celebration of marriages the previous year - see images below.
